Tilda, Wix or your own admin: what should a business in Georgia choose?
An honest comparison of site builders and a custom website with its own admin: when Wix or Tilda is fine, and when your own system pays off.

Wix vs custom website: which one does your business in Georgia need? If you want to test an idea quickly or publish a simple one-language landing page, a site builder like Wix or Tilda is perfectly fine. If the site has to work in three languages, take bookings or orders, keep requests and clients in one place and avoid a monthly platform fee, a custom website with its own admin usually pays off within a year or two. Here is an honest comparison, without “builders are bad”.
We do website development in Batumi and across Georgia and often move clients from builders to our own system. Not everyone needs that, though, and below are the cases where we would recommend a builder ourselves.
The short answer
- Site builder (Wix, Tilda): quick start, one or two pages, one language, no booking or orders, minimal development budget.
- WordPress theme: a bigger site, and someone who will keep plugins and updates in check.
- Custom website with its own admin: several languages, online booking or a store, requests and clients in one place, SEO and speed matter, and you don’t want to pay monthly for a platform.
Site builder vs your own admin
A site builder is a service where you assemble a site from ready-made blocks in the browser. The site lives on the builder’s platform, and you pay a subscription that grows with your plan. Wix, Squarespace and Tilda are the best known.
A WordPress theme sits in between: the engine is free and you can host it yourself, but the look and features depend on the theme and plugins, and someone has to look after updates and security.
Your own admin is a management system built around your business. The website and admin belong to you and run on your server and domain. In the admin you change copy, prices and photos, and see requests, bookings and clients. We show ours on the Your own admin page.
What ours includes:
- website requests that arrive as notifications and in Telegram;
- a calendar and online booking;
- a page builder: copy, prices and photos change without a developer;
- blog articles with SEO hints;
- gallery, reviews, services and prices;
- staff roles and permissions, and two-step sign-in;
- it opens on a phone like an app.
When Wix or Tilda is the right call
Builders are not a mistake. They work well when:
- you want to test demand for a new service in a couple of days;
- the site is one to three pages in one language;
- requests go to a messenger and that is enough;
- there is no online booking, cart or customer account;
- you are happy to learn the settings and spend your own time on them;
- there is no development budget yet and a small monthly fee doesn’t worry you.
In these cases a custom system is premature. Launch on a builder, see whether clients come, and revisit the question when the site starts to feel tight.
Staying on a builder? Check these
Even on a builder you can lay groundwork that makes life easier later:
- Register the domain in your own name, not the contractor’s or the platform’s. Your address stays yours if you move.
- Keep copy and prices in a separate document. You won’t have to pull them off pages one by one when you move.
- Use readable page addresses, like /back-massage rather than /page12345. They are easier to keep when you move.
- Set up analytics from day one. In six months you will know which pages bring requests, which helps with any decision.
- Add up a year of fees, including booking, mailing and CRM services. That total is often what makes people consider their own system.
Signs the site has outgrown the builder
- price and copy edits take longer than they should, or a contractor charges for each one;
- clients write in one language and the site only speaks another;
- bookings, requests and clients are spread over three or four services;
- fees for the site and services grow faster than your client numbers;
- the site is slow on phones and search rankings aren’t moving.
If two or three of these sound familiar, it is time to compare the options seriously.
Where builders start getting in the way in Georgia
Three languages
In Georgia a site almost always needs Georgian, English and Russian. On builders, extra languages are often made as copies of pages: you change a price in one version and forget the other two. Search engines need proper links between language versions, and these are easy to lose on copies.
In your own admin a language is a field on each text, not a separate site. We cover this in detail in our guide to multilingual websites in Georgia.

Booking and orders
On a builder, booking and shops usually run on built-in modules or third-party services. That often means a pricier plan or a separate subscription, and bookings and orders live in someone else’s dashboard, apart from your site. More in our article on booking websites for salons.

Requests and clients scattered everywhere
A typical picture after a couple of years on a builder: requests arrive by email, bookings in a separate service, clients in phone notes, conversations in WhatsApp. Nothing gets lost as long as one person keeps it all in their head.
In your own admin, website requests arrive as notifications and in Telegram, and clients, bookings and history are stored together. You can reply to a client in WhatsApp with one tap.

SEO and speed
Builders do cover basic SEO: titles, descriptions, page addresses. The trouble is in the details. A page assembled from heavy blocks can load slowly on a phone. Language versions and structured data can’t always be set up the way you need. And you write copy and articles without any guidance.
With your own system, SEO is built in from day one: fast pages, correct language links, a sitemap. Our admin gives SEO hints for articles and pages, and the link preview for search and messengers can be filled in for each language.

Fees and ownership
A builder site lives on the platform. Stop paying and it goes offline. Want to move to another contractor, and it often turns out easier to rebuild: not every builder offers export, and where it exists it is usually limited.
A custom website with its own admin has no platform fee. The site and admin are yours; only the domain and hosting remain. For a full breakdown of costs, see website cost in Georgia in 2026.
Wix vs custom website, point by point
Getting started
- Builder: a few hours if you do it yourself.
- Own admin: with us, design, copy, development and SEO usually take about a week. Larger systems take longer, and we give the timeline upfront.
Money now and in three years
- Builder: almost nothing upfront, then a subscription that grows with the plan, plus booking or CRM services.
- Own admin: a one-off build, then only domain and hosting.
Edits
- Builder: yourself, once you learn the editor. Otherwise through a contractor.
- Own admin: yourself, from your phone: copy, prices, photos, services, reviews, articles.
Languages
- Builder: often page copies, edits in several places.
- Own admin: one text with a field for each language.
Bookings, orders, clients
- Builder: modules or third-party services, often paid separately.
- Own admin: booking, calendar, requests, clients and staff roles in one place.
Ownership
- Builder: the site lives on the platform; moving often means a rebuild.
- Own admin: the site, admin and domain are yours.
What it looks like in practice: Serenity
Serenity, a massage studio in Batumi, used to run on Tilda. Every change went through a contractor, bookings came by phone and chat, languages were translated by hand and clients lived in memory and notes. In the case study we called the switch Instead of Tilda, the studio’s own system.
The result:
- a three-language site with 75 pages, launched in a single day because our admin core was already built;
- online booking: service, day, time, contacts;
- requests in the admin and in Telegram, reply to a client with one tap in WhatsApp;
- a client base instead of notes;
- the owner changes prices, photos and copy from his phone;
- articles on the site for search;
- its own server and domain, no builder subscription.

The Santehshop plumbing store has a similar story: it ran on Tilda and orders came by email. Now it has a 152-product catalogue with filters, a cart with a delivery day picker and every order in the admin with a status. The old page addresses were kept so search rankings weren’t lost.

How to move off a builder without losing search traffic
If your builder site already brings clients from search, move carefully:
- Save a list of every page address and what was on it.
- Move the copy, services, reviews and photos.
- Where addresses change, set up redirects from old to new.
- Check titles, descriptions and language versions.
- Switch the domain and turn off the old site only after checking.
That is how we moved Serenity and Santehshop: Serenity’s copy and reviews came over from the old site, Santehshop’s products, sections and copy too, and old search links lead to the same pages.
FAQ
Can I start on Wix or Tilda and move to a custom website later?
Yes, and it is a sensible path. The key is to keep page addresses and copy so you don’t lose search traffic. The longer a site lives on a builder, the more pages it has and the more care the move needs.
Is a custom admin harder to use than a builder?
No, usually simpler: it only has what your business needs. There are no blocks or design settings to learn. After launch we show you how to use it and stay in touch.
What if the developer who built the admin disappears?
The site and admin are yours and run on your server and domain. That is why it matters to agree upfront that the access and domain are in your name.
Is WordPress also “your own admin”?
Partly: the site is yours and there is no platform fee. But the admin is the same for every WordPress site, features come from plugins, and someone has to watch their updates and compatibility.
How much does moving from Tilda or Wix cost?
It depends on the number of pages, languages and features. We collected market benchmarks and cost factors in our article on website cost in Georgia.
